This is an exquisite Victorian gown made from cotton lace in a variety of motifs. Styled with a slight bird-chest (delicate pleating at the front) and modest neckline, it is fitted through the waist with an A-line skirt and finished with a ruffled hem. The sleeves are two layers: a bell-shaped oversleeve, and a more slender undersleeve. The most intricate lace accents the waist and includes a floral medallion at the center front. Additional lace details adorn the neckline, the chest, and the small of the back. Closures down the back of the dress include hooks-and-eyes on the bodice and very small snaps on the skirt.
This garment has been cleaned and is in good condition. The lining behind the collar and the cap-section of the undersleeve were replaced with a comparable silk as the original silk wore away. The garment is now able to be displayed or worn. There is some slight yellowing on the hips that is barely noticeable and a handful of very small holes that have been hand-sewn and backed with silk (see pics). The only damaged part of the dress is the 1.5\" silk ruffle at the very edge of the hem which is beginning to deteriorate - although again, this is barely noticable. All of the cotton lace is sturdy.
It was built to fit Chest-34, Waist-23.5, Hips-35(The gown is displayed on a form measuring Chest-35, Waist-25, Hips-35)
This is an original piece from the turn of the century (1900) and would be a perfect addition to a vintage clothing collection.
