This is an antique Edwardian/Victorian nightgown (1854~1910) made of lightweight white cotton fabric with a lace texture. It features long sleeves, a collared neckline, and a button closure. The nightgown is pleated and embroidered. The garment care instructions recommend hand washing only. The nightgown is a size medium.
SIZES LAYING FLAT pit to pit 21”, sleeve 24”, bust 21”, shoulder to end 53” long.
The night gown is over 100 years old. In spite of that it is in terrific condition. I hand washed quickly as I was fearful because of its age . It had a couple little marks at the very bottom of the hem. In the quickwash, they became smaller and lighter. A short soak should make them come out. (see pictures). It has pin tucking on front. Certainly it was hand made with great care. Although it is called a night gown, it could be worn as a summer dress, lounge wear. Sitting out by the pool, a small group of friends, this would be appropriate.
It is difficult to find antique ladies wear in good condition, for the fact they’ve been worn for so many years, or shoved away in a basement or closet. . I’m thrilled to bring you some of the very nicest out there, I’m hoping you’ll find them as fascinating as I do. My store however will always be vintage/antique linens!
Thank you for looking and have a terrific day!
I apologize for the pictures that won’t show up. This is first time I’ve seen this platform. I do hope isn’t changing our photo page and this is how it works.
