Designer Jan Bajtlik created this piece after drawing inspiration from Cosmographia, the book of the same name by the 16th-century German scholar Sebastian Münster.
Based on medieval myths and legends, the design is filled with meticulously rendered pyramids, sea monsters, imaginary creatures, plants, and architectural structures.
This highly popular design is now difficult to find and is considered one of the rare masterpieces of the collection.

Sebastian Münster, best known as a cartographer, was also a historian, astronomer, mathematician, and teacher of Hebrew.
First published in Germany in 1544, Cosmographia was one of the most widely read books of the 16th century.
When Jan Bajtlik discovered a first edition of the book in a Polish library, he was captivated by its world of myths and legends.
This Carré depicts an imaginary landscape in which architecture, animals, and plants are interwoven.
Using elements from Münster\'s book, including the hippocampus—a mythical creature with the head of a horse and the tail of a fish—and pyramids, Bajtlik created a dreamlike world filled with wonders.

Purchased new and unused from a reputable luxury resale dealer in Japan.
