EXTREMELY RARE Vintage Chester Barrie 44R Angora Sport Coat For Sale

Legendary British tailoring house Chester Barrie was one of the few companies that produced pure angora (rabbit fur) menswear. Angora is very difficult to work with and spin into dense enough material to make into menswear without falling apart. As such, this extraordinary jacket is very, very rare, and considered a “grail” item among many menswear collectors. This vintage jacket, made of angora, feels like velvet and mohair had a baby. It’s incredibly soft and very warm. The detailing is superb. Of note are the buttons, which are hand-carved of antler (possibly deer, but I don’t know for certain). The jacket features a throat latch tab (the tab above the left lapel), with buttons under the double-felted collar. This coat was produced as a 44R, but because it is vintage, it runs a little small — closer to a slim-fit 44 or a 42. This is an iconic piece of menswear history, and when they are sold, they frequently fetch thousands of dollars. This jacket is in better condition than any I have seen, with no signs of damage, or even signs of wear. This coat is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a serious menswear collector/aficionado.
