Authentic Antique Edwardian Silk & Lace Wedding Gown c. 1908-1912 | Directoire Silhouette, Ruched Sleeves, Matching Bridal Lace Cap | Museum/Collector Quality
Overview
An exquisite, authentic piece of fashion history. This breathtaking Edwardian era bridal or formal afternoon gown dates precisely to the transition period between 1908 and 1912. Moving away from the heavy S-curve silhouette of the early 1900s, this gown beautifully showcases the slim, high-waisted Directoire / Empire silhouette that defined the pre-WWI era.Crafted from a delicate, lightweight cream silk crepe or silk chiffon, this gown features incredible period craftsmanship and comes with its matching bridal lace cap and extra original trimmings.Exquisite Historical Details
  • The Bodice: Features a beautiful faux crossover/asymmetrical wrap drape across the front, accented by a horizontally pleated/pintucked silk insert panel.
  • The Collar: High, romantic Edwardian modesty neckline featuring fine, layered circular net lace and a ruffled collar treatment.
  • The Sleeves: Stunning, heavily ruched and gathered three-quarter length sleeves terminating in matching embroidered scrolling lace cuffs.
  • The Trim: Elaborate, heavy cream-on-cream dimensional soutache or chain-stitch embroidery on lace trim that frames the asymmetrical bodice wrap and cascades elegantly down the length of the skirt panel.
  • The Silhouette: High, softly structured waistline flowing into a straight, columnar floor-length skirt with a subtle mock-wrap front drape.
  • Accessories Included: Includes the rare, matching wire-frame bridal lace cap/headpiece adorned with small silk ribbon bows, plus a small bag of detached period remnants/trimmings.
Condition Report
This gown is in good antique condition given its age (over 115 years old) but does show signs of time.
  • Fabric: Sound structural condition overall. Light, uniform age-related cream/ivory discoloration throughout. It has not been recently cleaned and would benefit from professional preservation styling or delicate steaming.
  • Wear: Please see photos for minor spots of wear on the lace. No major shattering or dry rot observed on the visible silk panels, but it remains a delicate textile meant primarily for display, study, or cautious archival wear.
Approximate Measurements (Taken Flat)
  • Note: Edwardian garments were tailored to highly specific corset shapes.
  • Bust: 15\"
  • High Waist: 45\"
  • Hips: 16\"
  • Total Length (Shoulder to Hem): 57\"
