Beautiful antique Edwardian white cotton blouse dating to approximately 1900, featuring extraordinary whitework embroidery and intricate openwork lace insertion.The fine, lightweight cotton is decorated throughout with delicate swirling embroidered patterns and vertical bands of elaborate circular floral cutwork. The openwork creates a particularly beautiful effect when worn over a contrasting color.The blouse features a rounded neckline, softly gathered full-length sleeves with fitted embroidered cuffs, and a fitted bodice with small metal hook-and-thread-loop closures down the front. At the waist is a gathered cotton extension with two ties, likely intended to help secure the blouse beneath a skirt waistband.A wonderful example of Edwardian whitework, with especially beautiful craftsmanship and an exceptionally decorative design.The blouse measures approximately 14 inches shoulder to shoulder, 36 inches around the chest, and 18 inches from shoulder to hem.
