The 2 cell size is convenient, however this light stock is not that bright. It is good enough to use in a room, but that is about it. I tried upgrading to the xenon bulb which made about a 10% difference. This is a well made light, which is made here, but if you can handle the weight, get the 3 cell model. A friend of mine has one with the led bulb, forget about it. He can shine the thing 100 ft+.

I LIKE the two-way push button. For a momentary flash, lightly press the button. For continuous lighting, press the button a tad harder until it clicks - to stay "ON". The twist-lens focusing is welcome, too. Want broad lighting? Need more concentrated focused light? Just twist the lens (at the front). Unlike many flashlights, which may (or may not) turn "ON" when needed, these Maglites just work - WELL. They just seem to be made better than the alternatives ... industrial strength, if you will. I have both the 2 and 3 cell versions. The 3 cell is slightly brighter, of course, but heavier ... and longer. There's a place and need for the lighter, shorter 2 cell version, as well.
I enjoy having these old Mag. Lights around, a thing of the past. Sure it is not as bright as some of the new mag lights, but it is soft on the eyes also when the power goes out and will last a long time.

I put the best LED bulb in it that I could buy of a two D cell battery and it doesn't quite give me the brightness for which I had hoped. I think that the problem is in the reflector. Still it's a good light, just not a great light.
