SHEPHERDS STICK PILLAR DIAL CYLINDER PORTABLE SUNDIAL ANTIQUE WOODEN TREEN For Sale

This is for a lovely Victorian antique wooden pocket portable sundial known as a Shepherds Dial or Pillar Dial from the mid 1800s. It is a wooden column with a dome shaped lid and it has its original label still attached where the hour lines and letters of the month are still visible. The top unscrews to reveal the hollow inside which stores the brass indicator or gnomonas they are known. The gnomon is rested on top of the brass ring and then will cast a shadow just like other sundials. The top has a brass finial with a hole in and this was so the sundial could be suspended in the air. The paper label does have the remains of a maker starting M. but it is too feint to read. It is in excellentcondition with no damage to it anywhere, there are no cracks in the wood and it is complete.It measures34mm (1.25\") in diameter and stands135mm (5.25\") tall.
