This is a near mint condition 1959 Curta Type II mechanical calculator (No. 513034)with original black metal case. It has been tested and works. This Curta Type II(System Curt Herzstark)has a light grey body and is in excellent working condition and has no scratches or other noticeable blemishes. The black metal case has some minor blemishes but no scratches or dents. Manufactured by Contina Ltd Maurenin October 1959. Made in Liechtenstein.
The Curta Type IIis a small, hand-cranked digital mechanical calculator introduced CurtHerzstark in 1954. It can be used toperform addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and (with moredifficulty) square roots and other operations.Curta Type II calculators were considered the best portable calculatorsavailable until they were displaced by electronic calculators. It weighs 13.15 ounces (373 g).
The Curta Type IIhas 11 digits for data entry, an 8-digit revolution counter, and a 15-digitresult counter. Numbers are enteredusing slides (one slide per digit) on the side of the device. The revolutioncounter and result counter appear on the top. A single turn of the crank addsthe input number to the result counter, at any position, and increments therevolution counter accordingly. Pulling the crank upwards slightly beforeturning it performs a subtraction instead of an addition. Multiplication,division, and other functions require a series of crank and carriage-shiftingoperations.
